The land was purchased in 2002. It was subsequently fenced and the entrances constructed, and most of the trees planted during the following winter.
Landscaping work was carried out to level the green, strip the wildflower meadow of top soil and create the car park area, and the park as formally opened in May 2003. Subsequently an arena with raised seating was created. An information centre was erected which contains a large table- ideal for educational purposes.
